Alienware unveils new Area 51 ALX and Aurora tower designs

For a while Alienware has been telling us that they were going to have some big announcment at the Tokyo Game Show and big it is. They have a completely new chasis for their falgship PC, the Area 51 ALX. Its very different from their 2 previous predator designs. It reminds me of when they first showed of the predator 1 design, it was completly different from the towers they used before and I instantly fell in love with the design. I'm getting that same feeling, I'm completly in love with this new design. The picture above is of the ALX design, a second design is available and is smaller and based around a mATX motherboard. As for Alienware laptops, the m15x now has Core i7 processors and DDR3 ram. I'm guessing they will have the same available for their m17x in the next few months. Gizmodo has some more pictures of this awesome tower on their site.

Unfortunately for me I cant afford any of their new products, especially since I built myself a Core i7 machine this year. By the time I can afford a new PC USB 3.0 as well as SATA 3.0 will be on motherboards for both desktop PCs and laptops. Also Intel has some new technology involving high speed data cables using light instead of traditional electric wire for data transfer with speeds up to 100Gb/s. Those are expected to be released in consumer tech some time in 2010. What I will be doing though is ordering one of their Predator 2 towers for my next build.

Haruhi Season 2 end

The final episode of season 2 for Haruhi Suzumiya is out now. Unfortunately for me I have to wait a day or two for a.f.k. to upload their version of the episode. Maybe I'll just watch the Mazui upload but since I'm at work I cant do that right now, my breaks are only 10 min. Anyways once I finnish this episode the only thing that will feed my obsession will be the release of the second novel here in the US and the release of manga number 4. Hopefully it wont take them as long to bring out a third season. I enjoyed this season a lot but I still feel a little cheated with the endless eight episodes.

For some reason my font just changed and I cant fix it.

Data/Torrent Server update

Still planning on building the server, just need money. Still need a graphics card and some hard drives. Every item I want to bid on goes up by too much money in the last 2 minutes, so that has been messing up my plans since I'm trying to spend as little as possible. Will post pictures of the painted PC tower when I upload them off the camera.

In other news IGN has a live action Halo 3 ODST vid. Makes me wish we had the Halo movie right now. I think I got this pic on 4chan a long time ago.

Flikr page set up and first PC Mod

I set up my Flikr page with some pics from when I painted my current PC chassis. Will upload more pics of the finished product soon, as well as other pics. You will notice that part of the paint job is screwed up but I fixed all that before I coated it with clear coat. I used Clash aerosol paint that I got when I went to Italy. Now that I think about it I should have bought more cans and more colors. This was my first PC Mod and I hope to get better at it and eventually make my own custom chassis.

Also, that is not me in the pictures. That is my friend who I got to help me with the paint job since he has experience with spray paint.

San Francisco and Pizza!

I'll be going to San Francisco in about 7 hours so I'm gonna go to sleep in a few minutes. No real reason for the trip, its just that I saw an episode of Prototype This and they were eating Pizza from a certain restaurant in San Fran and so I decided to go get some. Two of my friends agreed and so we will be gone Saturday and Sunday.

Server Update

So far so good, I've been able to get a few of the parts I need for real cheap on ebay. Right now I've got a new power supply and a express card adapter coming in soon. The server will probably have to be connected to the network through wireless for the first few weeks. My old power supply died so I needed to replace it with one that could handle lots of hard drives. Now all I need is some hard drives with a large amount of space and a cheap low profile graphics card and I can get started.

On another note, I saw the movie Ponyo at the theaters with some friends. It may be a kids movie but damn it, Hayao Miyazaki sure knows how to make a good movie. If anyone has some time and has seen some of his movies or is into good stories and animation I suggest you go see it.

Data/Torrent Server

I've got an old mobo sitting on my desk with a Pentium 4 and 2 gigs of ram in it as well as an old case with a DVD drive and an 80 gig hard drive in it. I looked at it and thought of what I could do to get more life out of those old parts and almost immediately thought of setting up a data/torrent server. I've got hundreds of gigs worth of multimedia on my primary PC and no where else. I want a way to get that media onto other devices like my 360 or my other computers but without leaving my primary gaming rig running 24/7. It would cost too much and it would to annoying when I'd go to sleep. So setting up a PC with parts that suck up less power and putting it somewhere I wouldn't here it was a great idea. Only problem is I need to get some more parts, mainly a low-profile graphics card, a quiet power supply, and some more hard drives with plenty of storage space.

My goal right now is to get the power supply, graphics car, and a hard drive with at least 500 gigs of space for under 100 dollars which is my budget. Thanks to eBay I've found all that for under 50 dollars and new, I just hope no one bids on them in the next 3 days but as long as I get all those parts and stay within my budget I'm good. I even got an adapter for my old laptop wireless card. So I'm gonna be bidding on parts on eBay, I'm looking for new parts but I'll settle with used but working parts. I'm trying to save every penny since I don't much cash right now, which is why I haven't gotten a NAS device which is what I really want but cant afford at the moment.

Hopefully I'll have all the parts I need to get this started by next week. I'll be worth it if I can get the parts I need within my budget and later buy some more hard drives to really turn my old PC into a true Data/Torrent server. I even found an old Pentium D for with a starting bid of .99 cents and I may buy it, but I really don't know if I should since the Pentium D is not exactly known for its power saving features. I may be able to under-clock it and save power and extend its life.

I'll post updates and pictures as I get parts and stuff.

Indie Games

Its been a week since I posted something but not for a lack of things to talk about. I've been busy with work and when I came home I was busy doing other things. Haven't really even played any games or watched any anime, but that changed once I saw the "The absolute, autonomous, freewheeling, grassroots, nonaligned, nonpartisan, sovereign, unconstrained, uncontrolled, unregimented games pack."

I've always wanted to play some of these games, especially The Path, and now I can play them for cheap. So far I've been hooked on The Path. While its not a long game you can replay it with each of the six different characters. Each time you replay it with a different girl the game unfolds differently. It can be a bit creepy but that is the games intention. The music in this game really sets the mood and keeps your heart pumping at certain points.

For all of you who have any spare cash I suggest you get on steam and get this game. Also should mention that Direct2Drive has a smaller pack of indie games for cheap, which I also purchased. The only game that is the same on either company's pack is The Path, so either way you get one really great game. The other games on both these packs are also a lot of fun to play and definitely worth playing.

Obama Tacos

Whats the one thing I like more than maids? Maids with weapons, that's what!

One thing I don't like doing is having to set up a new laptop or desktop PC with all of my preferred settings and loading all my songs and files onto it. It takes too long. Or maybe I'm just impatient. I've had my new laptop for almost a week and I know I'm going to be tweaking settings and adding files onto it for some time. Unfortunately this is the first computer I own that I didn't build myself or buy through Alienware so its full of crapware aka bloatware. I've been deleting the "free" programs that I wont use or like. It did come with a version of QuickBooks and Since I actually know how to use it better than most people, thanks to the fact that I spend 7 out of my 8 hour work day on it, I've decided to keep it. Although considering that I don't have many expenses and I'm able to remember every dollar I spent in for at least 2 months I really don't need it. This reminds me that I have never balanced my check books ever! I just look at the bank statements and check for anything that I know I didn't spend my money on. Like I said, I remember what I spend my money on for a long time, I don't spend a whole lot and I always use the debit card or credit card, plus online banking makes it easy to check how much money I have wherever my phone can get signal.

Well getting back to the laptop, it ran decently at first but once I got rid of some junk its been getting faster at start up. Just need to start installing some games onto it and see what it can really do.

More on the future of hand helds

I think I need to expand on my previous post. I may have not been completly clear on what I was trying to say.

First I completly forgot about hand held PCs like the OQO model 2+. I realize hand helds like this one and the iPhone pretty much have the power to run like a laptop or netbook but they either
1) are not very common 2) are too expensive to be widely used or 3) are a closed system, unlike laptops where you can easily add any program that you already own onto it. The app stores are supposed to solve this problem but wouldn't it be nice to be able to go get my copy of Microsoft Office that comes with a 3 user license and just install it onto my phone and edit my final report for school on the go. Or how bout install a program off the internet like DVD Fab and connect the device to an external DVD drive and copy one of your movies onto it and either view the movie without having to convert it to a new format or convert it while you are on the go for later use. Not every device can do this if at all. They all suffer from one of the three problems I mentioned. The OQO is too expensive and similar devices are not exactly common and phones are not at the same level as a laptop to where you have an OS like XP or Windows 7 installed onto it.

I know smart phones like the iPhone have the power to run XP on them, its just a matter of time before we have a laptop the size of a PSP, DS, or even and iPhone running the latest copy of either Windows, Linux, or Macintosh. Once we have a hand held with the same level of freedom as a laptop and with the same level of penetration as a hand held like the DS or iPhone then we really will live in a truly free and mobile world, and maybe the price wont be too different from what we pay for netbooks. But what I'd really want is like a Persocom like Kotoko or Sumomo but hey, I can dream right?

I'll be talking about this subject more as time goes on and as mobile technology comes closer to giving me a laptop the size of my DSi with all the same abilities as current laptops as well as some processing power to match. Maybe even allowing us to upgrade the device ourselves. We have devices like the OQO, hopefully what I'm asking for in future devices isn't too far away, its just a matter of making it more affordable so that everyone can use it. That and making it so that we can call our local pizza restaurant and place an order.

The increasing power of hand helds

By hand held I mean any device that is held in your hand and is used for multimedia like gaming, music, pictures, video, or staying connected to the rest of the world. I'll make this short. We all know that our hand held devices are becoming more complex, more powerful and much more convenient. It seems that every hand held device is getting an app store. Our devices have long had much more processing power than many of our old computers that we may still have in our homes or, in my uncles case, still use. I expect them to be able to do everything a netbook does soon. I don't know when soon is, but I'm hoping its less than 5 years.

All I really want to say with this is, its about damn time and when do we get computers in our heads like in Ghost in the Shell?

I just read and article on gizmodo about alternative uses for old iPhones and I must say, I like the idea but I don't have any iPhones that I don't use, or any iPhone to be honest.
With that said I suggest u all visit this post on gizmodo. Its pretty cool what you can do with old phones now.

Anime Expo 2009 Figure loot!

So my guests have left and I finally have some time to post something. Unfortunately I'm tired and will only post a quick picture of all the figures that I purchased for myself and my sister at the convention. I just noticed the glare in the pic but I'll post individual pictures of the figures outside of their boxes later.
On a side note, my grandfather bought me a Sony Vaio laptop since my Alienware laptop died after many faithful years of service. Now I wont suffer withdrawal symptoms from not having a laptop. I'll be buying a new Alienware laptop sometime next year.

Anime Expo 2009

Went to Anime Expo 2009 this year. Only got to go two days instead of four like last year. I'll post pics of all the stuff I bought when i get a chance. One of my cousins came with me and my friends and he is staying at my place for a week so I haven't had time to post anything or even visit some of the blogs I regularly check. We have been playing on the 360 since we got back. Again I'll try to post more regularly as soon as my house is free of guests.

Transformers, Revenge of the Fallen

So I went to the premier of Transformers a few hours ago. Great movie, I loved it up until the part where Optimus Prime was about to fight The Fallen and Megatron and the movie film burned. Yes people of the internet, the movie's film burned and melted as soon as Optimus slams either the Fallen or Megatron. I'm not sure who because once again the film burned. I looked up to the projector that was about 10 feet away from me and saw smoke come out. Then a technician came and removed the film. Saddly all we were given for being in line for hours and staying up until, at that particular moment, 2:45 am was a free movie pass. I expected this but I was hoping they had and extra movie copy of the movie and that we would be able to watch what we missed. So now I can't go to sleep because I won't wake up for work if I do and I don't get to see the end of the movie. I'm a bit pissed off but atleast I can go see this awesome movie again. The picture is of what was left of the film, I've uploaded a video of the technitian removing the film on youtube.

Reason why I felt like uploading this pic is cuz I'm listening to Cagayake! GIRLS and today the last episode was uploaded to the net. It saddens me that I'm about to watch the last episode of this really fun anime. This anime had many of the things I like in anime. One other reason why I may have liked this anime so much is that I play guitar a bit, I'm not that good but I started practicing harder after watching K-ON. I started when I was a kid, stopped for a long period of time and then picked it up again not long ago. I own a Gibson acoustic guitar that belonged to my dad and was what I used to start learning when I was still in grade school. I'll probably be getting a Gibson SG Special sometime this year. I just got to get practicing at a more regular pace. I don't have much of a review of K-ON other than it was fun to watch, had plenty of comedic moments and was too short for my taste. The reason for being so short is that its an adaptation to a manga which I have been reading as it gets uploaded to unixmanga.com. I'll defenitly be looking forward to a second season.

New Xbox hardware rumors

So by now everyone has probably heard about Microsoft's Project Natal. I'm personally excited about it. But with the announcement of Project Natal also comes rumors of a new Xbox console that will have some more powerful hardware so that it can run Project Natal. I don't know about you guys but I believe this to be purely rumors. As many other blogs have pointed out, Microsoft has plans to make Xbox last a total of ten years. Not only that, but releasing newer hardware will piss off a lot of gamers, including myself.

I've had a 360 since the moment it came out, I reserved it a few months in advance, and the first console lasted me a little over 3 years before I got the RROD. Fortunitly I was still under warranty and got it replaced in a few days time. I've been meaning to get an elite, so that I can take advantage of Lives new service to download games directly to the drive, HDMI, and because I believe the Xbox should have always been black from day 1, but if I do that and Microsoft releases new hardware I will have wasted my money and I'll most likely end up buying another "elite" (I don't know what the new console will be called if there is a new console) so that I can play with this motion capture tech... Well thats assuming that the games that are built around that technology kick ass. But being a tech nerd I love having the latest most powerfull hardware.

Microsoft and other game publishers have also pointed out that Xbox's full power has yet to be used. Also I like to believe that Microsoft doesn't want to screw their loyal customers like this. I'd fully expect them to screw us over with prices maybe or releasing special editions colors or something like that, but new slightly better hardware is pretty hard to believe.

In other news, Kingston has the worlds first 128 GB flash drive that I absolutely want but can't afford since its price tag is over 500 US dollars. Also these new drives are built to order, probably since their so darn expensive.

Looks like the new iPhone is seriously worth getting this time. I really want to go and get it but the only problem is the price. 699 dollars to upgrade to this phone is just too much. I might as well buy myself a second 9800 GTX+ and another 6 Gigs or DDR3 Ram for that much and still have tons left over. I'll make up my mind once I find out how much the phone will cost with a contract renewel, my current one expires this October. Link to Gizmodo post with all the new features here. E3 Updates

I've been reading a lot of the stuff that has been coming out of E3 this year. I wasn't able to go this year since I'm not a member of the press or the gaming industry but I have a plan to change all that for next year. I found out that if you have your own business that involves computers you can get in. This is how a friend of mine was able to get in with his employes a few years ago. I do a lot of computer repair and maintance as a side job and I build a few computers throught the year so I've been planning on getting my license from the city. We will see how that goes next year.

So far the game I'm most excited about right now is Left 4 Dead 2. I play the first game as Pepperoni Nunchaku on Steam. Check out Gametrailers.com for some vids and Kotaku.com for their articles on some of the new games.

Also Peter Molyneux's Milo looks interesting, I'll keep an eye on this and post more info as I find it.

Halo ODST will have a special edition package for 99 dolllars that comes with a special edition controller.

360 will have an Update where you will now be able to download full 360 titles onto your HDD. It supposed to be ready buy August. I've played and finnished Bioshock for 360 but I don't own it so I'm looking forward to downloading it and trying out the new service this August. Bioshock will be one of the first titles available through this service.

New info on Alienwares "All Powerfull" laptop and pics too

Gizmodo has some news on the new m17x laptop from Alienware. We can expect some to hear all the juicy bits about what exactly will be in this machine. From what I have read on gizmodo this is one monster of a machine! Dual 1GB Nvidia 280s and finnaly some quadcore action in a laptop with nvidia cards! Another great feature that it will supposidly have is a built in 9400M integrated GPU to perserve battery life when you just don't need all that power for quickly checking email or typing up that all important term paper. I don't personaly like the design of the keys on the keyboard when I compare them to my old Area 51 but overall this is one sick looking laptop.

Its supposed to be about 12 pounds so I figure I can stop working out if I carry this around all day every day like I did with my old laptop. I actually never left the house without it for 5 years and now that the GPU died I feel naked, like someone who has worn a watch for years and then forgets it at home.

I haven't owned any laptops other than Alienware's Area 51 766 from way back in 2004 although I have used dozens of different laptops from different brands and models at work or when I'm repairing or performing maintance on them for my clients. I'm actually really excited about this upgrade to the old m17x, I might actually have to buy this one even though I just spent 1500 dollars on parts to build a new Core i7 machine to replace my old gaming rig. Zune HD details and video

Pictures and video of the new Zune HD are up on Gizmodo. I haven't owned an MP3 player since the Ipod photo, which broke 2 years ago. I still have that player but its just in a drawer. This new Zune though looks great, and from what I read in the specs it's gonna be realy good. I think I'm gonna buy this one for sure. I held off from buying previous versions of the zune because I wanted an Iphone, even though they lack simple features like MMS, video recording, and sending files through bluetooth but I think I really need this Zune. But in the end it will depened on price and storage space and how much better or worse that is than the Iphone.

Anti Virus Software

Im currently sitting in my room with my cousins laptop hooked up to my desktop like if it were on life support. I'm always telling friends and family to "invest" in good anti virus programs, or atleast let me suggest good free versions. I've been doing this for years but every year I get calls from them to fix their computer because it "suddenly doesn't work good anymore." First thing I ask them is if they are running any antivirus or anti spyware programs. I almost always get No for an answer. And so I end up making a trip to their house to remove all the junk that they have on their pc. All this could have been prevented with good anti-whatever software. So my advice to everyone, even if u don't wanna spend the money, take the time to look for a good free anti spyware or virus program online from a reliable company. It will save everyone time and money. I'll post a list of good free programs for this later tonight or tommorow.
For now I suggest using AdAware and Avast.

As for my cousins computer, I finnished the scan on her computer and the cause of the problem was malware masquerading as antispyware programs. These are easy to spot because they offer to search your computer for malware and when the scan is complete they offer to clean it up if you pay for the complete version of the software. Stay away from these programs and websites. Plus programs like Nortan are very affordable, and programs like Avast and AdAware are free.

My very own maid

Like many people, I hate doing chores. So I have decided that I need a maid. Unfortunately the closest thing I can get to that is convincing my 11 year old sister to get my laundry done and wash my car, amazingly my sister is a very hard worker. The only setback is she obviously wants to be paid and she is being expensive and I'm being cheap. Can't be helped that I'm cheap, I'm 21 and I'm paying for most of my college tuition. I obviously don't have a picture of my sister in a maid outfit so instead I have uploaded the first maid pic in my picture folder which actually is pretty close to what my sister looks like except with blue eyes instead of brown.

New season of Haruhi

So the new episode of the "second season" of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya has started. What do I think about it? I love it! Never can get enough of this series.

While reading other blogs and posts on different websites about how they are introducing the new episodes, some people have stated that they believe that the series license holders will use this as an excuse to resell us season 1 along with season 2. Thus we will end up paying more for the DVDs. Could this happen? Maybe. Will it happen? Probably. Will I personally buy the box set even though it is pretty much reselling season 1 to me and thus making me pay more? You bet I will!

I already own the limited edition DVDs of season 1. Normally I wouldn't be happy with paying for something twice but in this case I couldn't care less. I'm actually already thinking about how this new box set will look like and I'm shaking with anticapation for its release!

On another note, I've probably downloaded 4 different versions of the new episode 8 from different subing groups. All in an effort to get the one with the best translation and quality.

Also, before I forget. Welcome everyone to my blog. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I will enjoy writing it. I'll be writing about different things but will most likely focus on computers and technology in general, anime, and video games.
